Crochet is just addicting, I am more and more sure of it! I am making a coloured draft stopper for my bedroom and between one color and the other I like to create something else...and here's yesterday night's result! I watched a movie and in the meantime made two news phone/iPhone/mp3 cozies... white and mint cream... of course with the cherry on top!! enjoy!

I made this crochet cozy as a gift for my sister in law for xmas... and when I saw her face when she opened the present, I wanted to make tons more! I love to see how simple things can make people happy. and it's fun to keep your mobile phone, Iphone or mp3 player safe with something that is also cute and looks yummy :)
I'll be now working on a series of these, hoping to receive custom orders :) it's a lot of fun to experiment with different colors for the icing and decorations!

first of all, happy new year everyone!
I hope you had a great start of 2012. I surely did, I started the year with a wonderful trip to the South of Italy to visit some friends I haven't seen in years. It's been great: breathtaking landscapes, lots of nice foods and endless talks.
And now that I'm back, I feel really energetic and active.
So I started my new production with some vintage inspired resin jewels. At the moment these are the items I enjoy most: finding the little figurines is a lot of fun, as well as matching glitter and images for the background.

Kerst op de Kaap 2011

Yesterday I took part in the lovely xmas event Kerst op de Kaap in Katendrecht, Rotterdam. First of all, the weather was great! We only had two big showers in the late afternoon, when the market was almost finished, so that's way more than I hoped for!
There were a lot of people, kids running around, fun music, and I sold 15 items, which is a really nice result. I also got a lot of compliments and nice comments, and it's so nice to see how much handmade makes people happy!
I also had lovely neighbours, warme schokolademelk and great food :) and now a few pics!

working space - work in progress

in the last few days I decided to stop complaining that my house was always a mess and decided to do something about it. so, I finally did what I kept procrastinating since a few months for no real reason: I organised my working space. I finally have my own table(s) to work on, and a space that I can leave messy or tidy or however I feel like, because it's my little creative piece of heaven.

here you have a couple of pics of the space (still a bit messy, lots of stuff on the floor which needs to go...)

I have a small table which I can use for the "dirty" or messy part of my creative process, such as pouring resin or using glitter. the big table can be used to put the jewelry together, prepare packages and so on. the boxes contain supplies or finished items ready to pack, and I put a small plastic piece where I seat so I can work with fimo without touching the table directly. to make the place more colorful and inspiring I added a cork board that I can use for images and tiny things, and wires to hang my ATCs collection. on the far left of the image you can also see that I also have my small oven close by, to cook the jewelry, and bits of bubblewrap to pack them.

more pics of the finished space will follow...for now, I can't wait to start using it! I am so glad I invested some time and a bit of money to do this...definetly worth the efforts!

I only recently discovered a free service by Dawanda (oh my, I must be the slowest - and last person to discover this, but okay...) which I find great.
It's basically a sms alert which automatically sends you a text message when you sell something in your shop. I am pretty sure you all knew about this - but just in case, I wanted to let you know! You should definetly check it out.

Fall Love

oh my... I've been neglecting this blog terribly!
It's been a bit of a complicated end-of-summer, this year. Then a looong working period in Italy, et voilà, I am back home in Rotterdam. I am still getting used to live on my own, and I think it's going to take a long time before I feel comfortable again, but that's life...
I curated two exhibitions in Italy and had an awful lot of work to do which I did not expect. But that's the job I love most, so I cannot really complain about it! The exhibitions turned out really well and I enjoyed my italian month a lot. I had lots of aperitivi with friends, and besides work, I lived outside a lot, which is one of the things I love most about going back to Italy.
Now I'm back and active on the handmade side...I got an order for 6 brooches which I completed today and (fingers crossed!) I should start working on a wholesale order tomorrow! Can't wait to know if this is going to happen :)
I really missed working with my hands - when I am a bit stressed on the working side it's the only way to relax...!

a while ago I made (and sold) a lot of these candy jar earrings. I really enjoy making them, although the process is a bit long... the dutch love to put a lot of white candy sprinkles in their "disco dip" and I spend way too long trying to get rid of most of the white, in order to have colorful earrings! anyway, since I was able to find the perfect miniature bottles again, I had fun making a few new pairs... and they are now on my website and dawanda :)

Welkom Thuis Festival and Ramblings

On saturday I participated (for the second time!) to the lovely Welkom Thuis Festival, in Katendrecht, Rotterdam. It's a really nice Festival with a full program of music, theater, dance, amazing food and a nice crafty market! I enjoyed so much last year that I absolutely wanted to be there again this year as well.

All in all it was a great day, I sold some items, met nice people, ate great loempias (yummy!) and shared my stand with a lovely lovely lady, Marieke from twaalvierendertig (check her out at twaalfvierendertig.blogspot.com )

I was very upset because I forgot a full box of stuff at home (managed to get eventually during the day but my mood stayed like that anyway!) and I did not feel so social.

I never experienced being on a market during a "difficult" period of my life, but I realised this affects a lot your way of dealing with people and small unexpected problems and bumps on the way, which would be totally ok if you were in a better mood, seem something really serious...

Enough rambling for now! The day was great anyway, and I also found a sale on Dawanda as soon as I got back home...so I should not complain at all!!! :)

I saw this Tag on a couple of blogs and could not resist...I think it's so funny and I LOVE reading other people's random facts! So if any of you wants to do it, it would be great !
But let's start with mine....

♥ I have 3 piercings and one tattoo, but they are pretty well hidden (especially the tattoo! that's completely hidden) so people don't really think about me as a "tattoo" or "piercing person".

♥ I always grew up with a dog by my side since I was born. That's the thing I miss most in my life since I moved abroad. But unfortunately my lifestye does not allow me to get one, at least for the moment

♥ There are three things I was good at, that I regret giving up: bellydancing, playing bass guitar (ok ok I was not SO good at this!) and juggling. I gave them up for one reason or the other and I wish I hadn't. (especially the bellydancing! I loved it!)

♥ Pearl Jam are my favourite band ever and I saw them live quite a few time and in several different cities including Milan, Torino, Rotterdam and Berlin.

♥ I lived for three months in NYC a few years ago and left a big chunk of my heart there. I loved it.

♥ Almost every pixar movie made me cry

♥ I am a bit of a makeup junkie and have a HUUUGE makeup collection (only low cost luckily). It's a really recent passion though, for almost 15 years I sported only a panda-eyes look or no makeup at all. Now I love choosing colour combinations and change look every day.

♥ I don't like driving the car but I LOVED driving my scooter when I was in italy... I drove scooters for 10 years there, from high school days til the day I move to the Netherlands. I absolutely love it.

♥ I am also a crafty junkie. Eevery now and then I discover new materials and techniques I ABSOLUTELY have to try and I get obsessive about it, then I quit because they're not that interesting to me... and go back to my beloved resin and fimo clay :)

It's official... I am in love with owls...and especially with these supercute ones! I keep making resin jewelry featuring them :) but since I have sold already half of the items I made, I guess I am not the only one who finds them irresistible!

So, these are the freshly made owl necklaces that I will bring to the market on saturday, and in the meantime, that I will put on my dawanda and webshop.

Thinking about Winter...

For some reason, although I love summer, my favourite seasons are autumn and winter...I love the cozy feeling of working at home with a hot cup of tea, watching the rain or the show falling outiside... ok, enough for now...

Anyway, I always forgot to put online the pics of my first scarf realised with Twinkie Chan's book! This is what brought me again in the crochet-madness after so many years! I had a lot of fun and it gave me lots of ideas to start developing my own patterns, as soon as I will feel confident enough to begin.

This scarf is definetly going to put a smile on people's face during a grey winter day.

I had a long relaxed working period in italy and just came back to Rotterdam 2 days ago. Too bad it's already autumn in the Netherlands but I managed to enjoy hot weather and lovely food in italy! And I even went to the seaside with my mom for the first time after 4 years, I loved the feeling of warmth and relax - the only concern was which ice cream I should choose and which book to read next! it was only 5 days but I really loved it.
Now it's time to go back to real life and prepare a new market for next week... the Welkom Thuis Festival in Katendrecht, Rotterdam! Some pics of new items will come soon!

I am not a party girl indeed... or better... I only feel like partyin' every once in a while. Maybe I'm just getting older...but I definetly prefer dinners with friends that parties! The only exception is for concerts...that's something I like a lot and that makes me go wild!!!

I already had my social evening yesterday (art opening, beers and tons of people I know...) so tonight I feel like staying at home and relax. And that's what I just made for my website! A nice collage of some of my favourite creations... :) Lots of owls going on lately :)

♥ Favourite Book of the month: I am currently reading the book "eating animals" by Jonathan Safran Foer. at the moment I still d0n't plan to become vegetarian but I think it's good to be more informed and to be able to make wise choices in terms of food. becoming 30 made me definetly wiser and more responsible!!!!
♥ Favourite Movie of the month: am I allowed to say "Gnomeo and Juliet" ?? I had a lot of fun watching it!!
♥ Favourite Place of the month: went twice to Amsterdam and loved it a lot, as usual

Bazar Bizar - the day after

I had a great time yesterday. I still cannot believe how great the day was! when I woke up it was so grey and rainy that I almost thought about giving up and staying in bed. Then, when I arrived (under the pouring rain) to the market, I saw how much energy was going on there, people trying to protect their stalls from the rain and make them look colorful and fun despite the terrible day.
Unfortunately I did not take any picture, but I hope to see some from the BB staff soon... there were some amazing stalls full of cuteness and really inspiring artists. I sold 28 items, which is amazing for me - and I got so many nice comments from the people at the market and friends passing by to visit me and have a chat.
I did not have time to bring a lot of new items to the market (my business trip to italy lasted longer than expected and I barely had time to come back home and pack everything I had to run to Bazar Bizar!) but I will take pictures of the few ones I was able to make, to put them in my shop as soon as possible.
So, all in all, it was way better than any expectation I could have!
Can't wait to be on a market again... I'm still full of energies.

this week I am back to Italy for work (and to vote of course - I was very happy with our referendum results! yay!) and already enjoying summer here.
this week will be only (or mostly) about work but I managed to get a really nice haircut yesterday and spend some time with my best friend, having ice-cream, biking through the city and having a lovely prosecco in a square at night... so today some inspiration pics directly from Italy! I love my country so much :)

♥ Favourite Book of the month: the Handmade Marketplace - by Kari Chapin. a lovely book full of tips about how to improve your handmade activity. the book explores many different aspects, from how to use social networks to how to make good photos of your products. it has a really good links section, and last but not least, a superuseful checklist at the end that you can use when you plan to go to a market. not to mention the incredibly lovely design... I got it on Amazon for less that 10euros! definetly worth the investment :)

I haven't been much at the cinema or watching movies...may was a busy hectic month! but when I was in Italy I saw a nice movie named "Habemus Papam" by italian director Nanni Moretti

♥ Favourite Place of the month: I visited Hamburg for the second time and liked a lot... I even managed to visit the location of the movie Soul Kitchen and had an amazing cheesecake at a small lovely place called "Don't tell Mama"

every now and then I discover a new addiction.

sometimes it's makeup, sometimes it's crafty-related, other times it's food. I just can't have enough of that something for a while, then maybe later I forget about and just go on. (I know, it's a bit childish, but still...)

I am going through a very bad addiction at the moment, and it's called crochet ♥.

I used to crochet a lot as a child and teenager. My granma and my mom gave me an introduction and then I went on a on for many years, making decorations, small bags and so on. Then, as usual, I completely forgot about it.

Since a few days ago, when my boyfriend gave me a book about food-related crochet project. I totally went crazy about it and now I am constantly crocheting. Sometimes it feels really easy and natural, as if all the knowledge I had was stored in a little corner of my brain and I would just need to open that small drawer and let it go again... Sometimes it's complicated and I have to check tutorials on youtube, but all in all it feels great to use this technique again! Maybe because it's also easy to go on with a project while sitting on the sofa or watching a movie, but it feels like I cannot stop! I like this feeling so much. :)

And you? do you have any bad addictions and which crafty technique do you find absolutely addicting?

good monday my readers! this is my monthly post about my favourite things...this time in the month of april! I am late but I promise I'll do much better in the future...and it's almost already time for the may ones!

♥ Favourite Book of the month: a really nice book I found in an english bookshop in Berlin, named "Speaking with the Angel". it's a mix of short stories by several writers, compiled and edited by Nick Hornby. there are some small gems in that book which totally deserve to be read!
♥ Favourite Movie of the month: I absolutely LOVED the movie Soul Kitchen by Fatih Akin. it's funny, clever and even romantic, in every possible sense.
♥ Favourite Place of the month: I had a great time in Italy...so this time the favourite place of the month is HOME!
♥ Favourite Purchase of the month: a really nice italian book about graffiti and street art by a very young italian lady!
♥ Favourite Food of the month: it has to be pizza, sorry, not very original!
♥ Favourite Music of the month: I discovered Agnes Obel, which is truly inspiring and dreamy. I love her music!

being on a market and some random thoughts

I was at the Swan Market in Rotterdam today with my creations... it's been a cold and windy day, but no rain (miracle!) and even some (rare) moments of sun... I had a great day though! I sold 11 items, met some nice people, spoke some little dutch and saw a lot of great stalls full of amazing products!

And now, trying to recover from the coldness and tiredness, some random thoughts.

♥ I was really impressed by the average quality of the products in this market! I saw great jewelry, tons of amazing vintage stalls, nice prints and illustrations... I felt they made a great selection and it always feels good to take part in such a nice mix of people! When you manage to sell some stuff when surrounded by such amazing crafty people you even feel a bit better and a little proud of yourself :)

♥ I love being on markets but the result is always so unpredictable... but okay, it's not only about selling right? you also have to consider the visibility you gain, the contacts you make, the potential customer who see your work... in any case let's say that the money in the pocket at the end of the day are not the only result to count on! In any case, a lot of energies and organisation are required for a one-day market, so sales are important too!

♥ what makes a market successful/unsuccessful? there are so many elements to consider it's always hard to be able to decide. of course the location, the weather, the people... is it good to be in a market with lots of other sellers? or is a small one a better possibility?

if any of you has suggestions, tips, comments, they are more than welcome!

Once again I have been neglecting this blog and my crafty activity in general...guess I need to learn how to use my energies better!
But now, it's time for a new start...hopefully a good one! So I will begin with talking about the month that just finished, and then it's time for good resolutions for the month that just begun!

February 2011

♥ Favourite Book of the month: definetly Juliet, Naked by Nick Hornby which I finished in about 5 days when I was in Berlin. the sweetest, nicest book I read in a really long time...I loved it! It made me stay up late to finish reading it...a feeling I really love :)
♥ Favourite Movie of the month: a movie from some years ago that I saw now for the first time: A Love Song for Bobby Long.
♥ Favourite Place of the month: this HAS to be Berlin! I love it more and more every time I visit it...guess who's thinking about moving there?
♥ Favourite Purchase of the month: a beautiful book of photographs taken by Felix Gonzales-Torres. simply amazing and really moving.
♥ Favourite Food of the month: sushi!!!
♥ Favourite Music of the month: Iron and Wine, that I saw performing live in Paradiso, Amsterdam. amazing evening! and then I kept listening to his music all the time...

Items sold in February: 3 (I know, this sounds a bit ridiculous but considering I did not put any effort in my crafty activity it's a miracle! and it gave me the energy to start putting some effort in it again...)

Good resolutions for March (or let's call them goals...):
- spend more time on my crafty blog/website/twitter
- save some money (ouch, I spent SO much money in Berlin...)
- be in a better mood (january and february have been sort of grey months for me...)
- think about some new beejoux items!!!

it's more than 1 year now since I started making resin jewels and I need to try to make something different out of it, especially because lately a HUGE amount of people started suddenly to make resin jewelry with glitter and stickers.

so these are my new creatures... still cannot avoid little bubbles and imperfections, as usual when you start something new, but they will soon go :)

In the following pictures you can see some of the works I brought to Intalentueel, a nice all-handmade shop in Delft (you'll find the link on the right)
The jewels are all handmade with resin or fimo. The ones made with resin are filled with glitter and japanese small stickers that feature cute characters and decorations.
All the jewelry is mounted with nickel free findings, colored ball chains and plastic cameo settings.

I am a 27 yo italian girl with a huge passion for crafting activities :)
I currently live and work between Rotterdam - The Netherlands and Italy and in both places I enjoy many things.
I started a couple of years ago creating necklaces with fimo and from that moment I never stopped and enjoyed many different materials and techniques. In this moment I mostly work with polymer clay and resin, mixing both with other materials such as plastic/glass/wood beads, and metal findings.
Some people asked me to show them my creations and here they are so that you can see them!
